Orthodontist | Researcher in Periodontal-Orthodontic Treatment

From the very beginning of her career, Dr. Eglė Zasčiurinskienė has worked in multidisciplinary teams, driven by a clear mission: to help even the most challenging adult patients preserve their natural teeth. She is among the very few researcher–orthodontists in Northern Europe who has dedicated her entire professional career exclusively to the orthodontic treatment of patients with periodontitis.

Education & Academic Career

Dr. Eglė obtained her orthodontic specialty license in 2005 at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. She continued her academic path with a PhD at Jönköping University, defended in 2018, focusing on the effects of orthodontic treatment in periodontitis-susceptible patients.

Following her doctoral studies, she conducted a postdoctoral research project at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, funded by the European Social Fund. Her research explored malocclusions and orthodontic treatment needs in patients with Stage III–IV periodontitis.

She later continued her research as a Research Fellow at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, University of Gothenburg.

Clinical & Teaching Activity

Currently, Dr. Eglė works part-time as Associate Professor at the Orthodontic Clinic, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate students, covering contemporary orthodontics as well as advanced periodontal-orthodontic treatment approaches for patients with periodontitis and pathological tooth migration.

Alongside her academic role, she is an active clinician and researcher. Her work has been presented at major international congresses, including the European Orthodontic Society and EuroPerio. She also delivers intensive 1–2 day seminars focused on the treatment of patients with advanced periodontitis.
